Have Positive Attitude for the New Year

Happy New Year!

I am sending my best wishes for each and everyone of you to have a memorable 2017 for all the right reasons. May it bring you health, happiness and memories that you will treasure.

With a New Year brings new chances, new opportunites, new beginnings and hopefully a new positive attitude towards your future. What ever you are leaving behind from 2016 or the years before then, it is important for you to see that the best is still yet to come for you in life. This can be a really hard concept to get your head around if you are feeling down, struggling to see any hope, or suffering from a lot of self-doubt (been there and done that many times before!). However, I can assure you that there is light in every situation, life just has a very funny way of showing you the way sometimes, which is why it is best for you to begin to focus on building a stronger relationship with who you are.

I want to share with you a few of my newly discovered approaches to ‘New Years Resolutions’ and how to keep yourself motivated for the next 12 months. This is my personal thoughts towards it all, so there is no need to treat this a gospel. I only hope that by sharing my own attitudes will inspire you to follow a better path for yourself for now and years to come.

Start When You Are Ready

When I think about New Years now, I don’t really think about what I want to do in the coming year, because I have already been working on the things I hope to acheive in it. If you want to change something, do something or improve yourself, then act on it as soon as possible. Do not hold out for the ‘new year, new you’ band-wagon, or wait and see how you feel when it comes to the summer months, do it now, because it is the here and now that counts! There is no real ‘right time’ to start any change, it is only when YOU are ready to begin that will matter.

Plan of Action

A dream is not acheivable if there isn’t some form of planning or preparation involved. Putting together a plan of action not only let you see how you are going to get there, but it will help you to stay focused on moving forward. I have spoke about SMART goals quite a few times before, but as much as it may pain you to read about them again, they really are an effective way to set out your plans. Also whether you are a pen and paper girl (like me) or digitally savvy, having a diary or schedule for the day/ week/month ahead is such a stress reliever. It is amazing how much you can benefit by visually seeing what you need to do.

Go at Your Own Pace

How easy it is to get so carried away with the hype of the New Year?! We are mainly programmed to want things done right here, right now because you so deperately want to be living out those dreams. However, you rush ahead, going a million miles and hour, trying to get so much done straigh away, you will most likely fall too soon. Time is a wonderful thing if you learn to appreciate it. Time gives us chance to prepare for the future and  to go at it at our own pace. There is no need to be in a rush to acheive your goals, you just need to get there in your own time. You will value the journey far greater than if you were to speed your way through it.

Collect Happiness

Yes, I know this seems a strange thing to say, but since doing this for the past two years I can honestly say it has made a difference to my thoughts and feelings towards myself and the things that happen. By collecting the happiness that happens in your life, it will encourage you to reflect on what you are placing the most focus on, and help to give you a clearer perpective on things. Noting down what you smiled about, what you are grateful for, what you have achieved, or what positive actions you have done that day is a fantastic way to keep up a mindful practice daily. This can be done in the form of a diary, something like The Happiness Planner which I brought as a positive present to myself (review coming next month). Another creative way to keep a collection of your happiness is to start a memory jar. In here you put in each happy moment you have that has made your day, so that you can look back at the year and see how much goodness there has been.

Be Inspired

Now this is probably the most obvious piece of advice that I can share, but it has to be mentioned as it is all too easy to loose sight of the inspiration that is around you. By surrounding yourself with like-minded people, you will bounce of their positive energy and feel more motivated to stay on track towards your ambitions. Find people to follow on socail media who really give you that ‘feel good’ factor every time you see their content. What I mean by this is you feel good about YOURSELF, that you can see how amazing you are, as well as being able to beleive that you too can improve on your own health and wellbeing (I really hope that my content does this for you!). Read self-help books, watch inspiring documentaries or even go and meet people who have actually done what you hope to acheive, as I have no doubt that they would be willing to help you to get there.

Show Gratitude Towards Yourself

Looking at your life in a negative light, will stop you from seeing the good that is in it already. Think about everything that makes you thankful or blessed often, as it can help you to have a more positive outlook.
Along the way to where you hope to be, it can be tough to stop yourself from being too hard on yourself. This will have an impact on your motivation, will-power and attitude which could cause you to stop acting positively. Be kind towards yourself, show respect and gratitude for all of the hard work that you are doing. Praising yourself is not a selfish act, but an inspiring one. By showing that you care about yourself, and are proud of what you are doing, is incredibly inspirational. Try being your very own best friend.

Hopefully these pearls of wisdom ( oh, I do flatter myself) have encouraged you to think more positively about 2017. Learn to love the real you, get to know yourself inside and out as this knowledge can all be used to your own advantage. Open your mind to new and exciting possiblites and take a step out of your comfort zone.
